Science League Honors: 2005-2006

This year Watchung Hills participated in the New Jersey Science League. This competition consists of four tests that students take in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Students who are in their introductory year of the subject matter take the “1” test and students in AP take the “2” test. For the individual, the top three of the four test scores are counted and weighed against other scores. For the team, the top two scores from each test are added together to make up our team score. Several hundred schools and students participate across the state and our students do consistently very well. This year was perhaps one of our best years to date as several of our students are the very best in the state.

Biology 1:  Out of 147 schools, we are ranked 2nd in the state (and will be receiving a plaque).

Freshmen Rachel Chen and Karen Tsung are ranked 3rd and 11th state respectively (both will be receiving plaques).

Biology 2: Out of 133 schools, we are ranked 50th in the state.

Chemistry 1:  Out of 156 schools, we are ranked 6th in the state (and will be receiving a plaque).

Sophomores Eric Liu, Ginger Jiang, and Tony Liu are ranked ranked 11th, 14th, 53rd in the state respectively (Eric and Ginger will be receiving plaques).

Chemistry 2:  Out of 131 schools, we are ranked 14th in the state.

Junior Hashim Chaudry and Sophomore Lisa Ma are ranked 8th and 58th in the state (Hashim will be receiving a plaque).

Physics 1:  Out of 142 schools, we are ranked 17th in the state.

Juniors Andrew Kim and Elias Landau are ranked 48th and 64th in the state.

Physics 2 C:  Out of 49 schools, we are ranked 23rd in the state.

Senior Scott Olsen is individually ranked 41st in the state respectively.

Our high performance in the state is a testament to how great our school, and especially our science staff, truly is.

All of the students who competed, worked hard and helped our team place where they did. Please congratulate them on a great job.

Congratulations and thanks are also in order for the coaches: Sue Fenstemaker, Mike D'Alessio, Mike Amendola, Brian Brown, and Sophia Gershman for their hard work with their teams after school. Their effort and dedication to the Science League teams contributed to their continuing success and high performance. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
