Research Databases and eBooks
The Media Center subscribes to 19 research databases and owns more than 400 Gale Virtual Reference Library eBooks and 501 ABC-CLIO eBooks. They are available 24/7, both in school and at home.
To access the WHRHS research databases, go to nfuse.whrhs.org, or select the Technology link at the top of the WHRHS home page. Log in with your username and password, open the Media Center folder and click on the appropriate database icon.

ABC-CLIO Social Studies Databases comprises eight databases:

Each database provides a wide array of resources including 15,000 primary and secondary sources, biographies, maps, flags, photographs, audio and video clips, government and court documents, cultural documents, and speeches and narratives.
Biography Resource Center contains biographies on more than 340,000 people throughout history, around the world, and across all disciplines and subject areas. Biographical information comes from over 135 Gale Group sources, as well as full-text articles from periodicals and web links.

CountryWatch includes up-to-date information on each of the recognized countries of the world. CountryReviews includes demographic, political, economic, business, cultural and environmental information. CountryWire provides daily news coverage for every country and a significant news archive. Additional features include CountryWatch Data, the CountryWatch Map Gallery, the Image Gallery, the Global Guide, the weekly Political Intelligence Briefing, and the associated Intelligence Wire.
Country Watch User Guide
CQ Researcher provides single-themed reports and analyses of political and social issues, with regular reports on topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the U.S. economy. Each 12,000 word report can be read in its entirety or by section, which includes a background and chronology; an assessment of the current situation; tables and maps; pro/con statements from representatives of opposing positions; and bibliographies of key sources.

NoveList is a readers' advisory with over 150,000 fiction titles for all age groups. Users can search by title, author, or subject of the book. There are 4,000 custom created articles and lists organized by genres, themes, and awards. Book Discussion Guides, Author Biographies, Author Read-alikes, Recommended Reads, and Book Talks are provided for children and adults.
NoveList Plus contains 50,000 readable nonfiction titles.
Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center contains more than 8,700 pro and con viewpoint articles and 4,700 topic overviews on current social issues. It also includes 4,700 topic overviews, 375 primary documents, 775 court- case overviews, 300 biographies of social activists and reformers, 5,600 statistical tables and charts, 1,300 images, and 2,300 web links.

Oxford English Dictionary Online provides access to the 20-volume Second Edition Oxford English Dictionary, three Additions Series volumes, and more than 1,800 new and revised words each quarter. It traces the evolution of 600,000+ words across the English-speaking world as well as 2.5 million quotations. It also offers etymological analysis, listings of variant spellings, and shows pronunciation using the International Phonetic Alphabet.

ProQuest Historical Newspapers contains scanned images of individual articles and full pages of The New York Times, as well as photgraphs, graphics, advertisements, editorials, and special sections. Coverage extends from the first issue on September 18, 1851 to December 31, 2005. Articles from 2006 to the present may be found in eLibrary Curriculum Edition.

Student Resource Center contains more than eight million full-text articles from 1,000 periodicals and newspapers. It features primary documents, creative works, and multimedia content, including podcasts, video and audio clips. flags, maps and seals, and photographs. A Toolbox assists students in selecting research topics, creating outlines, organizing information, writing papers, and citing sources.
